Custom industrial sheet metal fabrication

Custom IP54 Enclosures for Industrial Equipment

Made for motor drive cabinets, PLC control boxes, and industrial machinery. Our in-house process covers laser cutting, CNC bending, hardware insertion, welding, and powder coating—with engineering and quality checks built into production.

For ordinary factory dust and splash conditions, a standard flanged door channel with a continuous-foam gasket offers a practical balance of protection and cost.

Protection in context

What IP54 protection means

IP54 indicates protection against harmful dust ingress and water splashes from any direction under specified test conditions. It does not mean the enclosure is dust-tight, suitable for high-pressure washdown or immersion, or protected for every outdoor exposure.

The complete assembly matters

For typical indoor factory conditions with suspended dust and occasional splashes, a well-designed enclosure can provide a practical level of protection. Door fit, gasket continuity, cable entries, penetrations, and assembly all affect the result. Final performance depends on the complete design and appropriate verification.

A practical sealing approach

Flanged door channel with a continuous-foam gasket

For general-purpose motor drive cabinets and PLC control boxes, we can fabricate a standard flanged door channel and fit a continuous-foam sealing gasket. When correctly aligned and fastened, this arrangement helps limit airborne dust and splashing liquid ingress while keeping manufacture straightforward.

It can be a cost-conscious protection balance for common indoor factory conditions. Suitability depends on the operating environment and the specified design and verification requirements.

Design details we review during DFM

  • 01Door opening, flange geometry, gasket path, and compression considerations
  • 02Hinge and latch positions, service access, and door alignment
  • 03Cable glands, cutouts, ventilation openings, and other penetrations
  • 04Mounting interfaces and assembly details that can affect enclosure protection

Penetrations and openings need to be properly specified and sealed as part of the complete enclosure design.

One in-house production route

From engineering review to finished enclosure

Enclosuremfg operates an integrated sheet metal production line for compact electrical cabinets and large industrial housings. Keeping fabrication and powder coating under one roof reduces handoffs and gives our team direct control over key production stages.

01 · Cut and form

Panel preparation

Fiber laser cutting and multi-axis CNC press brakes create panel profiles, openings, enclosure bodies, door flanges, mounting features, and structural returns.

02 · Prepare hardware

Fit and finish details

Automated clinching, tapping, and drilling prepare parts for threaded hardware, assembly, and installation.

03 · Join and align

Welded fabrication

MIG, TIG, laser, and cold-welding stations support different materials, joints, and finish needs. Laser welding can help limit cosmetic distortion in suitable applications.

04 · Coat and inspect

In-house finishing

The powder coating line covers pretreatment, coating, and thermal curing, with production and quality teams able to follow the work through finishing.

Capacity for varied cabinet builds

Equipment includes five multi-axis press brakes with varied tonnages, automated hardware insertion equipment, and assembly platforms up to 2000 × 6000 mm. Fixtures and large reference tables help maintain alignment on larger cabinets and machinery housings.

Finishing specified to your project

Include color, coating specification, and surface requirements in your RFQ so we can assess the appropriate production route. The integrated line supports large enclosure panels and frames within its 2500 × 6000 mm processing envelope.

Engineering before production

Resolve fabrication questions before they reach the shop floor

Our five mechanical and manufacturing engineers can work from customer drawings and 3D CAD data. If a design needs clarification, we raise questions before production rather than leave assumptions unresolved.

Review can cover bend allowances and formed-part fit, door and flange geometry, gasket placement, hardware locations, service access, weld sequence, possible distortion, cutouts, cable entries, and mounting interfaces.

Quality checks across the production cycle

Six full-time QA/QC specialists support a closed-loop quality process. Depending on project requirements, checks can include:

  • Incoming material checks
  • In-process dimensions
  • First-article inspection
  • Assembly features
  • Pre-shipment inspection
  • Revision and criteria review

For recurring production, agreed drawings, revision control, and inspection criteria help maintain consistency between batches. Identify critical dimensions and documentation needs when requesting a quote.

Project fit

Is this enclosure approach right for your project?

A flanged door with a continuous-foam gasket can be a cost-conscious choice for indoor electrical cabinets exposed to ordinary factory dust and splash conditions.

Common applications

  • Motor drive and motor control cabinets
  • PLC and automation control boxes
  • Industrial machine electrical enclosures
  • General-purpose switch and interface cabinets

Conditions to review carefully

Washdown, immersion risk, corrosive environments, severe outdoor exposure, and unusually fine dust may call for a different design and verification plan. Share the intended operating environment and any required standard or test criteria so we can review suitability before quoting.
